MY ROOTS - Part 1
I was born in a small fishing village, Kampung Kuala Sungai Muda,Kedah, about 30 km from Sungai Petani. Kampung Kuala Sungai Muda comprises a number of smaller villages namely Kampung Tepi Sungai, Kepala Jalan and Padang Salim. My kampung gained its place in history in the year 2004 when it faced the brunt of the tsunami which took several lives known and related to me.
The name Kampung Tepi Sungai was a running joke among my friends. What happened was, the registration clerk who was responsible for my birth registration took the liberty to omit the word kampung when recording my place of birth. As it is, officially I was born at Tepi Sungai. This became a fodder for joke at my expense along the line my mum did not make it in time to the hospital to give me a proper delivery.
I spent a considerable time there during my early years as we were living only 20 minutes away from Kg. Tepi Sungai, in Kota Kuala Muda.
